Question 4: How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware and online - in this project?

Image
Transcript: The technology that I used for this production was mainly my phone and my computer. From my phone, I took the pictures and I uploaded some of my blogs from my phone because I was either on the go or really had an idea. And I went to post it right there in that moment. And I actually edited my pictures on my phone through an app called PicsArt. Also for Softwares for my magazine, I used the software called Canva and for the pictures I used PicsArt. I even edit, I downloaded the Canva app on my phone so that if I need to do something quickly, I can just get my phone and edit it straight from my phone. And my phone is an iPhone 8 plus.

Question 3: How do your products engage with the audience and how would they be distributed as real media products?

Image
Transcript: The start of my production from my magazine was to do research on the things that I want to incorporate and things I did not want to incorporate. So I first started to do research on the type of theme I wanted for my magazine and my website. And then from there I took it over to the type of pictures I wanted to take, the pictures that I did not want to take. And then from there I took it the way I took it over to do research on the way I wanted my magazine to look and the type of feeling I wanted my magazine to give to people. So, to start off my website, when you first look at it, it's very it's peach and green together. On top of it, is leaves and when I think of nature. And also then from nature, my mind goes to natural. To me the peach color gives a meaning of not like a strong nor negative meaning it's like in-between. Very calm, also very calm. And then. So from there, that's the first element from our production. I want to give a calm yet nat...

Question 1: How do your products use or challenge conventions and how do they represent social groups or issue?

Image
Transcript: For my magazine ,I did get inspired by fitness magazines. However, I did challenge the conventions of it. For instance, typically, fitness magazines have a lot of taglines, whereas mine did not have as much. Reason being is because I didn't want to scare off people because me personally I tend to see that whenever I read a fitness or just any magazine, that have a lot of taglines. I kind of actually scares me away because it gives me the impression that it has way too much information and sometimes you want to go straight to a point. I also decided to follow a theme of just colorfulness because I wanted to appeal to the public eye, especially since my pictures aren't vivid and full of color. It's more like a natural setting in whatever color was presented in that day, and the colors of the model of whatever she was wearing. My masthead is located in the lower part of the my magazine and I. The reason I did it in the lower part of the magazine of front p...

Feature Story Final

It was every day, the bullying, the constant questions, “Are you anorexic? Are you starving yourself? Do you even eat?” Niyah   Goodwin felt helpless, she couldn’t help the fact that she was skinny. She knew she was underweight, but she didn’t think it would impact her confidence this much.             The kids were malicious, they would ask the same questions knowing the answer to them. Yes, she did eat. No, she did not have an eating disorder.             Through all of this, she felt so many emotions, but all she could express was anger. It was hard on her, and all she wanted to do was feel normal. Goodwin started working out at the beginning of high school to boost her confidence and get that body she was always aiming for. Working out five days out of the week and making sure to not overwork herself, her journey to fitness became a lifestyle.   ...

Final Content Page

Image
I ended up changing the spacing, the picture, and the color of the word 'Table of Content'. This is the final content page.

Content Page Draft

Image
This is the draft of the table of content page. Some things I will fix is the lettering space because they look to cluttered. I also might want to change the picture to a different one. However, every thing else I would keep the same.

Content Page Shots

Image
For the content page shots, I wanted pictures of the model in her fitness element. In the midst of the workout. These were the pictures that best gave that look

Magazine Layout Progress

Image
This was the process of creating the cover page layout. I included topics that I know will appeal to the public eye and what some people might find interesting. I also asked classmates what topics will appeal to them from a fitness magazine.

Feature Story-Answers

What made you start working out? "when I was in middle school, I would always get bully for being skinny. It really started to get to my mental health and I wanted to do something about it, so that is when I made the decision of working out." How do you stay consistent? "Staying hard is not as easy as it looks, especially when you have hit a plateau with your body. The thing that works best for me is looking at the bigger picture and constantly thinking about where I want to be with my body. Every so often, I place goals to reach, whether it is to lift heavier or run longer." What type of workout you started doing?  "When I first started working out, I did not what I was doing. So I would do workouts at my home and at my local park. I would jog for 10 minutes as a warm up and then do crunches, squats, lunges, and push ups with no weights till my body got used to it."  Did working out ever feel like a chore? If yes, how did you overcome that f...

Elements of a Feature Story

The formula to write a feature story consist of a lead, nut graph, direct quote, transition, and direct quote. The lead is supposed grab the reader's attention by using specific words. The types of leads include an narrative, descriptive, direct quote, startling statement, compare and contrast, and twist. The devices that can be used are repetition, short, punchy sentences, using dialogue, mixing sentence length to set a rhythm, and breaking the rules. A nut graph is a summary of what it is going to be about. To end your story use a powerful quote or tie the ending back to the lead.

Choosing a Masthead Layout

Image
I did a red coloring for my masthead because I wanted it to pop out and red give the feeling of fire.

Final Cover Photo

Image
The first and the last picture are the things that I did to get the final cover photo (the middle picture). I chose this picture as my cover because it gave me the best confidence yet hardworking picture out of all of them. I also wanted a body shot to show off the sweat.

Main Cover Photo Shots

Image
These are the pictures that I took specifically for the main cover page. Once I edit them , I will decide which one to pick. I want to give off a fierce yet confident look, no matter the size you are.

Shot Set up

This was my shot set up and the things that I used. I used the sun as my lighting since I wanted a natural scenery. These were the items that my model mostly used as well.
