Elements of a Feature Story

A feature story is about a person that has a beginning through an end. It uses vivid descriptions and quotes. The formula to write a feature story consist of a lead, nut graph, direct quote, transition, and direct quote. The lead is supposed grab the reader's attention by using specific words. The types of leads include an narrative, descriptive, direct quote, startling statement, compare and contrast, and twist. The devices that can be used are repetition, short, punchy sentences, using dialogue, mixing sentence length to set a rhythm, and breaking the rules. A nut graph is a summary of what it is going to be about. To end your story use a powerful quote or tie the ending back to the lead.
